The Bride of Christ: Watch Where You Stand

Podcast

The sand under our feet might not be solid ground. It may be nature’s way of pulling the rug from under our feet. Hiding beneath the surface, a deadly predator may be waiting in an ambush called quicksand. Quicksand is a lot like sin. It can be deceiving and unexpected. At first glance, it looks like wet sand until we step into it. Listen to how the Bible describes sin:

And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.
2 Corinthians 11:14

Sin looks like solid ground until we begin to sink. Sin and quicksand react the same. They both trap you. A Biology professor at the University of North Carolina spoke of getting caught in quicksand. When she stepped into some cracked mud, or what appeared to be cracked mud, she began to sink. It held her like a vice. She could not get free. The more she tried, the deeper she went. It wasn’t until a friend grabbed her hand and pulled her out that she could escape.

Sin is spiritual quicksand. We may think we could never get trapped in it, but if we are caught in sin, we may already be in quicksand. Sin is the spiritual quicksand of this world.
